Maurício Milani "Shogun" Rua, shortly called Mauricio Rua, is a Brazilian mixed martial artist by profession. He can currently be seen competing in the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s (UFC) Light Heavyweight division. His style of fight ranges from Brazilian jiu-jitsu to muay thai to wrestling and boxing. In 2002, he started his career in this profession as a martial artist where he played at Vale tudo events in Brazil. He grabbed his first win in the same year in one of those Vale tudo games by defeating Rafael Freitas in his opponent. In 2005, he was named as Fighter of the year and was also ranked as 7th fighter in his weight by Sherdog in 2013. He plays for the team Universidade da luta (2008 – present) and Kings MMA (2014 – present). Till date he has won a total of 23 tournaments out of 33 which includes Pride Middleweight Grand Prix Champion, UFC Light Heavyweight and other many more reputed games and is still determined to win more in near future.
Born on November 25, 1981 at Curitiba, Brazil, Rua was a martial art fan since a very young age. He started to take training for Brazilian jiu-jitsu at the age of six and Muay Thai at the age of seven. Later at the age of sixteen he followed the steps of his older brother and started training at the Chute Boxe Academy. Regarding education, he has finished the second degree in Brazil. Rua was working as a Brazilian model before becoming a martial art champion. He belongs to an Italian and Portuguese descent.
